Today I visited Stephen Brewster’s group in University of Glasgow, Scotland. Stephen heads the Multimodal Interaction Group at the University and is a Professor in HCI.
I met with a number of PhD students and Research fellows, learned about some of the projects the team are working on and seen some very cool demos related to health-care, sensing, mobile computing and gamification!! I also gave a talk on a recent study of mobile information needs project in the afternoon where members from the HCI team and the Information Retrieval team attended. I got some great feedback and some tough questions that hadn’t come up before, which was very useful.
All in all a really interesting visit. The multimodal lab is full of quirky tools, devices, sensors and toys! Mini-projectors, thermal sensors, tablets, smartphones, tactile sensors. My conclusion – we should get some more toys for our lab 😀
